Slick or what?
Result and performance aside that looked like a Hartlepool “United”.

The trialist they are all banging on about looked useful , can’t see what we will learn v Redcar and Blyth though

Plenty of people have mentioned the performance of Wreh and Mani, they definitely look as if they will cause trouble for defences. You can see there the qualities of Mancini too, he has great vision and awareness of people around him you can see him constantly looking around for options, there has been a question about whether he’d be able to play like that against the more physical teams in the NL, but as long as he’s got plenty of movement around him, then keeping the ball moving quickly will make it much more difficult, and exhausting, for teams to press us.
The other thing you can see from those clips was that Paterson has filled out a lot. There were interviews last year with him, and Tumilty, saying that one of the biggest things that they noticed different from League Two vs the lower Scottish leagues was the size and physicality of the players that they were coming up against every week, so he’s obviously trying to give himself the best chance of competing. Whether he’s good enough or not, at least he’s doing everything that he can to get the best out of himself.
We have nothing up front after Wreh and Mani went off. The gulf between them and their replacements was huge, so we need Umerah and one other (or two others if Umerah goes) to get that competition for places, and cover. I can see Grey going on loan to get a run of games in the first half of the season, and hopefully a good bit of confidence.
The defence did well, but against a good footballing team, that backline is lacking a lot of height, so would expect a couple more in there too. Lacey is still to come, but need a couple of 6’3” guys in there. Will also allow Dodds to go back to RWB. A midfield 5 of Dodds - Mancini - Wallace - Cook - Ferguson, with Wreh and Mani up top would be very good. Just need to settle on the back 3.

The trialist they are all banging on about looked useful , can’t see what we will learn v Redcar and Blyth though I think we’ll get more from the Blyth game than the Boro game. They will be very similar to what we will be up against in the National League, Blyth got 4 points off Fylde last year in National League North, and Fylde went up to our league as champions. We will be seen as one of the favourites and a relatively big team in this league, so will be up against teams that are just determined to stop us playing, and get in our faces at every opportunity. We’re not going to get the time and space in this league that Boro offered us.
